During ANS testing, which takes about 30 minutes, the patient’s blood pressure, heart rate and electrical dermal activity is measured during tasks such as standing up from a sitting position, squeezing a dynamometer and various other physical and cognitive exercises.

Sleep questionnaires are also administered given the high correlation between ANS over arousal disorder and insomnia.   

Approximately 65% of patients with anxiety related disorders have ANS over arousal which is often the primary etiology underlying the anxiety disorder.

ANS over arousal disorders generally responds well to somatic therapies such as neuromodulation of the amygdala and SSRI pharmacological therapies.
