- NCI Clinical Research Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to its mission of discovering new and better ways to diagnose and treat neurocognitive and neuropsychiatric disorders.
The foundation is comprised of a team of neuroscientists with expertise in cognitive neuroscience, functional neuroimaging, neuropharmacology and psychopharmacology, neuromodulation, neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative diseases, traumatic brain injury and the behavioral sciences.
Below is a sample of some of the research topics being conducted at the NCI Clinical Research Foundation:
- Identifying Alzheimer’s disease neuromarkers on functional brain mapping
- Tracking connectivity changes in resting state fMRI in mild cognitive impairment to dementia
- Identifying cortical networks abnormalities correlated with perseverations in Autism
- Creating an Alzheimer’s disease probability and disease severity index
- Developing a neurodegenerative disease probability index
- Using non-invasive brain stimulation to treat cognitive, neurobehavioral and neuropsychiatric disorders
- Biological and pharmacological treatments in Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases
- Developing a biological assay to diagnosis delirium.
- Training caregivers on managing neurobehavioral complications in patients with dementia
The Research Team
The current research team is made up of qualified personnel with vast experiences ranging from functional brain mapping and neuromodulation, to clinical research and data analysis. Gerald Tramontano, Ph.D., Executive Director
Dr. Gerald Tramontano conducts a variety of sponsored and investigator-initiated pharmacological, nutraceutical and neurodiagnostic research. As a Principal Investigator, Dr. Tramontano has completed approximately 70 clinical research studies. His clinical research experience in drug development ranges from bioavailabilty / bioequivalent studies, as well as, first in humans Phase I studies through Phase IV clinical trials. The majority of his clinical research has been investigating functional brain mapping, neuromodulation, behavioral, biological and pharmacological treatments for patients with a variety of cognitive and neuropsychiatric conditions, in particular – neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease. He has authored several published neuroscience-related and pharmacology articles in medical and forensic journals. Dr. Tramontano specializes in the practice of clinical neuropsychology. He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Rutgers Medical School and faculty member of the Cerebral Dysfunction Clinic at the medical school. He is an Assistant Professor in Psychology at St. John’s University teaching clinical neuropsychology in the Ph.D. Clinical Psychology Program.
