Assessments

At NCBI, our licensed Speech- Language Pathologists offer comprehensive speech and language evaluations using reliable and valid diagnostic assessment measures to identify the cause of each patient’s speech and language disorder. Our SLP therapists work on a team with other experts at NCBI who specialize in the use of various neurodiagnostic techniques to further enhance accurate diagnosis to guide selection of the best treatment option for each patient.

Neuroimaging

At NCBI, we integrate into all of our speech and language evaluations the use of functional brain mapping with electrical neuroimaging and fMRI to identify treatment targets. Targets are typically cortical network hubs that have been injured or never fully developed that are identified as related to the patient’s speech and language difficulties. These brain regions are manipulated during neuromodulation enhanced speech- language therapy to improve language functioning.

Once the cause of the disorder is identified and confirmed through neuroimaging, a treatment plan is constructed and implemented. Efficacy assessments and re-evaluations are used to determine treatment response and for revisions of existing treatment plans.

Neuromodulation Enhancement of Speech Language Therapy

Non-invasive neuromodulation treatment applications such as transcranialdirect/alternating current stimulation (tDCS/tACS) are used to active or modulate cortical networks that are responsible for language and other related functions. Using neuromodulation with SLP therapy increases the likelihood that cortical networks responsible for the language related functioning is engaged during the therapy which is thought to enhance the treatment outcome. Some of these interventions are available only through research and others have been FDA-approved to treat certain disorders.

Therapy

At NCBI, we have SLP therapists specializing in pediatrics through geriatrics.

Pediatrics and Adolescents

Our SLP therapists treat a variety of voice, speech and language disorders such as articulation problems, receptive and expressive language disorders, as well as, functional communication impairment. Our therapist also specialized in treating learning disabilities such as dyslexia, dyscalculia and dysgraphia.

Many of our children’s language disorders are related to broader neurodevelopmental conditions including Autism, Down Syndrome, as well as, acquired and traumatic brain injuries. Our specialists, such as pediatric psychologist, are part of the treatment team to help each child achieve their therapeutic goals.

Adults and Geriatrics

Aphasia is the most common type of language disorder. Our adult and geriatric SLP therapist specialize in the treatment of anomic, receptive and expressive aphasia resulting from stroke and neurodegenerative diseases such as Primary Progressive Aphasia, Semantic Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease.

Speech Language assessments and treatments are reimbursed by most third-party healthcare insurance carriers. NCBI participates in most healthcare plans including Medicare and Medicaid.
